Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy Services the Pharmacy Operation Manager has the following responsibilities:

  • Directs and manages the operation of one or more functional areas of the pharmacy department including professional and technical staff.
  • Direct oversight of staff, including performance evaluations and the initiation of the coaching and counseling process.
  • Promotes modern pharmacy practice with regards to preparing, compounding, dispensing and delivering medications, as well as clinical pharmacy practice.
  • Ensures compliance with the Board of Registration in Pharmacy, the Department of Public Health, State Law, Federal Law, and professional pharmacy practice standards.
  • Supports department wide initiatives, and identifies new department opportunities in the areas of drug cost savings/avoidance, clinical programs, technology advancement, and enhancement of pharmacy practice
  • Communicates professionally with Physicians, Nurses, Pharmacy Department Staff and other healthcare professionals regarding medication related issues.
  • Assists in the creation, development, interpretation and execution of Pharmacy Department policies and procedures.
  •  Proactively identifies areas of improvement within the assigned functional area, or within the department.
  •  Represents the Department of Pharmacy at organization wide meetings, committees and councils. Including acting as chairperson when necessary.
  • Orients and trains pharmacy interns, residents, technician trainees, other students and newly hired personnel.
  • Promotes teamwork and accountability in accordance with the values of Lowell General Hospital.
  • Ensures the highest level of pharmacy practice competency through continuous education, review of current literature, trainings, certifications, and participation in professional organizations.



  • 1 years of pharmacy practice in a hospital setting
  • Currently Licensed or Eligible to practice pharmacy in the state of Massachusetts
  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy Practice required / Doctorate degree in Pharmacy Practice preferred
  • PGY 1 Residency preferred
  • Previous management experience preferred
